Brilliant Blue FCF (Blue 1), also known under commercial names, is a colorant for foods and other substances to induce a color change.

Studies of the 9 dyes currently approved by the FDA (one of which is Blue 1), suggest, if not prove, that most of the dyes cause health problems, including cancer, hypersensitivity, or neurotocity (including hyperactivity). And that's the case even though most of the reasearch was commissioned, conducted and interpreted by the chemical industry itself and its testing labs and academic consultants. The health concerns indicate that most dyes fail the FDA's safety requirement "that there is convincing evidence... that no harm will result from the intended use of the color additive."

However, the FDA has concidered this safe. I did also notice an article from the FDA website that said that when it was added to intrevenous food, it had serious side effects, including death.
